Blair Woodson

March 8, 1954 — March 5, 2020

Blair Tice Woodson, 65, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 after complications from a sudden illness. He was the life partner of Kathy Brown, originally of WI, and shared an 18 year partnership together. Born in Mt. Holyoke, MA, he was the son of Joy Dilliston Woodson and James Woodson, Sr., the last of five children. A graduate of Kent High School, class of 1972, he went on to learn carpentry, developing mastery in many areas. He ended his career with his most beloved work, creating intricately detailed pieces in pursuit of exceptional craftsmanship and beauty.A lifelong musician, he played multiple instruments, none more prolifically as guitar. He played with friends in adolescence and joined a wedding band thereafter.  Those closest to him know him to pick his guitar on the couch during lazy afternoons or, on cool Summer days, to crank up the stereo, his fender wailing throughout the neighborhood. He found connection and peace in commune with music and gifted those that heard him with the same. Devoted father of Brandon and Christina, Blair taught his children the values of kindness and compassion to all living beings, and the importance of not judging a book by its cover. He showered his children with love and support. Blair was an avid fan of science fiction and perpetual tinkerer of electronics and computers. A dreamer by nature, he dreamt of someday scuba diving and visiting the pyramids of Egypt. He loved fishing and thoroughly appreciated nature and the great outdoors. A jack of all trades, he put high value on self sufficiency, ensuring back-up plans for his back-up plans. He spent the Spring and Summer months garage-saleing and thrifting his way around Northeastern Ohio in joint enthusiasm with his partner, Kathy Brown, in search of treasures and the all-mighty deal.

A deeply cared for partner, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, Blair leaves behind his partner, Kathy Brown; puppy dog, Sara; children Brandon (Erin) Woodson and Christina (Liz) Woodson; siblings Jim Woodson, Margaret Watts, Alan Woodson and Helen (Frank) Maxey; grandchildren Elliot Woodson and Aubrie Woodson; nieces and nephews Joy Watts, Mira Woodson, Jessie Woodson, Mandy Woodson, and Megan Maxey; along with many others who knew him and his spirit. He was preceded in death by his loving mother Joy Woodson, father James Woodson, nephew Colin Woodson, and beloved pets Shale, Madison and Tootsie. With a dry sense of humor and perpetual childlike innocence and charm, he made the world brighter with his smile and warm laughter. Per his request his body had been cremated and returned to its elemental form. A celebration of life is to follow in late Spring.  Arrangements were entrusted to Dean's Funeral Home Sebring, Ohio.
