Listen to Obituary

William Frederick McCartney, born November 2, 1958, in Salem, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2026, at Aultman Alliance Hospital. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose warmth and kindness touched everyone he knew.

For 27 wonderful years, William shared his life with his wife, Nancy, building a home full of laughter and love. Together, they raised their children, Chris McCartney and Dustin (Marsha) McCartney, who will always carry his spirit with them. His legacy lives on through six cherished grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Margaret McCartney, his brother, David Israel, and stepdad Glenn Boyer.  He is also survived by his siblings, Barbara Barker, Roberta (David) Morrison, Janet (Gary) Smith, Marsha Marino, as well as several nieces, and nephews, who shared many fond memories with him.

A graduate of West Branch Schools, William spent much of his career in the lumber industry, earning respect for his hard work and dedication to quality. He loved the Cleveland Browns, enjoyed riding his Harley in his younger days, tinkering with lawn mowers, and spending time outdoors.

William also had a deep bond with his dog, Toby, and his other beloved pets, who gave him comfort and unconditional love. His passing leaves a deep void for family and friends, who will remember him for his passions, kindness, and the warmth he brought to their lives.

A time of visitation for William will be held on March 13, 2026, at Dean’s Funeral Home in Sebring, Ohio, where family and friends are welcome to gather from 4-6 pm at 256 W Ohio Avenue. Attendees are welcome to wear their Browns attire. A funeral service will take place at 6 pm with Pastor Lynn Moore officiating. Burial will take place on Monday, March 16th, at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Beloit. Arrangements are entrusted to Dean's Funeral Home, Sebring, Ohio.
