Bob was born on August 16, 1936, at home in Ironton, OH. The son of the late John Robert (Bus) & Marie (Gollihugh) Callender.
Bob graduated from Green High School in Franklin Furnace, OH, and then from Portsmouth Business College, Portsmouth, OH.
Bob was drafted into the United States Army in 1960 and proudly served until 1966.
He was employed by Ready Mix Concrete in Ironton, OH, then in 1964 began his 30+ year career with Western & Southern Life Insurance in Ashland, KY and Ironton, OH, offices.
He and his family moved to Alliance, OH, in 1976 when he was promoted to District Manager of the Alliance and Salem offices. He later served as District Manager in East Liverpool and Steubenville, OH, for over 3 years. He retired from W&S as DM coming full-circle back to the Ashland, KY, office, his career goal location. He later worked as a consultant for W&S and traveled to where needed in various states.
He served as an instructor and as President of the National Association of Life Underwriters. He earned many professional awards during his career.
Bob was a dedicated, honest, caring person and a devoted loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 61 years - Dottie (Fetter), two children - Jeffrey Callender (Kathy Hoff) of Powell, OH, and Sharon (Scott) Maldoven of Alliance, OH, two grandsons - Dr. Nathan Callender (Seattle, WA) & Maxwell Callender (Phoenix, AZ), Sister, Annie McClure (South Point, OH) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ohio Furnace Baptist Church in Ironton, OH, on May 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Roger Lavender officiating.
