Gary H. Mathews

 Gary H. Mathews passed away November 26, 2025, at the age of 69. Born October 15, 1956, Gary was a graduate of Marlington High School (‘75) and the University of Akron. He proudly served as an officer with the Alliance Police Department, ultimately retiring at the rank of Sergeant. Following his retirement, he remained active with the Fraternal Order of Police and Blue Knights law enforcement organizations, and Gary always remained thankful for his long-standing friendships with former colleagues and officers. 

Gary was well known for his prowess as a musician, including 5-string banjo and guitar. For many years he frequently played for local events, often accompanied by his father, Gene. Gary loved his family and was most proud to be a father. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Patricia (Green) Mathews, and by his longtime companion, Patricia Cleburn. 

Gary is survived by his son, Nicholas Mathews, his brother, Jim Mathews, sister-in-law, Heather (Mathews), nephews, Spencer and Tanner, and niece, Piper.

 A celebration of life will be held on January 5, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Alliance Elks Lodge, 606 Glamorgan Street, Alliance, Ohio 44601; friends and family are welcome.
