Rodney Lynn Sturms, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 2, 2026 at the age of 80. Born on August 22, 1945, in Parsons, West Virginia, Rodney spent his life devoted to family, community, and pursuits that brought him joy and fulfillment.
Rodney was the cherished son of the late Aubrey Sturms and Lillian Phillips-Sturms, whose values and love shaped the man he became. Throughout his life, Rodney demonstrated unwavering dedication to those he cared for and to the causes close to his heart.
A devoted family man, Rodney is survived by his loving wife, Mavis Sturms. They were married April 7, 1967.Together, they built a life grounded in shared dreams and mutual support, nurturing a family that meant the world to them. He is also survived by His son, Terry Sturms; His daughter, Paula Jones; and his son-in-law, Troy Jones. Rodney’s legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Travis (Kristina) Vancamp, Taylor (Kristian) Youngblood, and Trey (Brooklynn) Jones. Each holds treasured memories of Rodney’s warmth, guidance, and steadfast presence. His parents, Aubrey and Lillian, and several brother and sisters preceded him in death and are remembered alongside Rodney with love.
Rodney found purpose not just in his family but in his service to the community. One of his proudest accomplishments was his many years as a firefighter with the Beloit Fire Department. In that role, Rodney displayed courage, selflessness, and an enduring commitment to the safety and well-being of his neighbors. His contributions made a lasting impact—one marked by integrity and heartfelt compassion. He also served many years as Councilman with the Village of Beloit.
Outside of his professional and family life, Rodney’s passions brought him much happiness and camaraderie. He was a devoted fan of football, following the Cincinnati Bengals with characteristic enthusiasm. Rodney’s fondness for classic cars reflected both his appreciation for craftsmanship and his keen eye for detail, while his enjoyment of auctions and swap meets spoke to his love of discovery and the simple pleasures of community gatherings.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours at Dean's Funeral Home, 256 W Ohio Ave, Sebring, OH 44672, on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at the same location at 7:00 pm. Interment will take place on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 10:00 am at Highland Cemetery, 264 S 12th St, Beloit 44609.
Rodney Lynn Sturms will be deeply missed by all those fortunate enough to have known him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the community he served with distinction.
