Rodney Steen

Rodney Eugene “Boogie”” Snuffy” Steen, 88, of Zanesville, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at his daughter’s home surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on May 14, 1934, in Barnesville, Ohio.

He was the son of the late Orval C. “Whitey” and Irene Ruby (Miller) Steen. His Grandparents were the late Jacob & Carrie Ellen McMullen Steen, Thomas & Cleo Cantwell Miller.

Korean War Veteran, U.S.A.F. (SAE) 1951 – 1953, where he achieved the rank of Sgt, Reserve – 1953-1954, Crew Leader B52 – 1954-1960. He was a disabled veteran.  He was a Lightweight USAF Boxer. He was a member of the VFW in Bethesda, Ohio and the American Legion in Barnesville, Ohio.

He worked for the Ohio Operating Engineer Local #18 in Akron, Ohio. He was self - employed / Owner – operator of Rod’s Auto & Detail Shop Alliance, Ohio and was highly requested by local dealerships for the excellent work he provided.

He had many hobbies that he enjoyed such as fishing, dancing, playing cards, and RVing.  He had the gift to gab and could have written a book on the many stories he told to anyone who would listen. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved his stories. He was proud of the military and displayed support all the time. He was born to boogie and loved making a new friend and loved his family & friends. Always, thrived to make someone smile and laugh.

His “mottos” “Hug and say I love you to everybody”, “Make my day” and always “God Bless You”.

He is survived by his children Rebecca (Fred) Householder of East Rochester, Ohio, Clifford Steen of Minerva, Ohio, Jean Graham of Alliance, Ohio, Lenora Williams of Virginia Beach, VA, and 17 grandchildren and 23 great – grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his son Rodney Calvin Steen who passed unexpectedly on December 4, 2022, and Sister Shirley Kathryn (Schwall) Lucas.

A Memorial and Military Service will be in Barnesville, Ohio, and will be announced at a later date. He will be interred with his parents.
