Mary was known for her heart for animals, especially her beloved dogs she had throughout her life.

Mary Lucille Taylor (nee Turpenen, nee Howes), passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Crandall Medical Center, Sebring, OH. She was 95 when she was welcomed into Heaven by her Savior Jesus Christ.

She was born October 2, 1930, in Ashtabula, OH, the youngest of seven children of the late John and Sarah Marie (Heath) Turpenen.

Mary graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1948, having been a marching band majorette. When she was 20, she married Chester Howes, of Ashtabula, and the couple had three children.

Mary spent most of her life in Ashtabula where she was employed for approximately 30 years by the Ashtabula Area City Schools, first as a school bus driver, then for 20+ years as secretary at Saybrook Elementary School.

She later married Eskle “Pat” Taylor, of Ashtabula. They enjoyed their retirement years in Tucson, AZ.After she was widowed and struggling with macular degeneration, Mary moved to Sebring, Ohio, to be close to family. Despite her limited eyesight, she always had a positive attitude and was active.

Mary was known for her heart for animals, especially her beloved dogs she had throughout her life. She was very social and would often stop to talk with people onher long daily walks. Among her grandchildren, she was known as the fun “Gma”.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, both husbands, her son Douglas Howes, her great grandchildren Luke Barto, Malachi Howes, and GracieHowes, and her special friend Don Gruenbaum.

Surviving her are her children Chester (Christine)Howes of Alliance and Denise (Michael) Juhola of Plain City; six grandchildren: Bethany (Christopher) Price of Uniontown, Zachary (Candace) Howes of Orlando, FL, Karis (Caleb) Stone of Pittsfield, MA, Moriah Howes (Anthony D’Antonio) of Canton, Emily (Dillon) Barto of Raymond, Abby Juhola (Rodolfo Marroquin) of Columbus; 11 great grandchildren: Claire Price, Quinn Price, Ellie Howes, Noah Howes, Micah Howes, Elijah Howes, Natalie Stone, Rebecca Barto, Benjamin Stone, Emma Howes, Jacob Barto, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held. Her cremains will be interred in Saybrook Township Cemetery on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 am.
