Celebration of Life for

Mary “Luecille” Smith

Mary “Luecille” Smith peacefully passed away at home on Friday, August 29, 2025, surrounded

by her loving family. Born on August 10, 1933, in Brownsville, TN to Joseph Cecil and Ossie

Bell (Hess) Thurmond she had recently celebrated her 92nd birthday.

Luecille was a cherished member of the community, known for her warm smile, generous spirit,

and willingness to help anyone in need. Her presence and smile could light up a room and

bring comfort to those around her. She was also a devoted former member of the Gladys

Merrell Temple #1049, where she remained active for many years.

She leaves behind her beloved children: daughters, Roberta Jarman of Columbus, OH, and

Barbara (Alvin) Miller, and son Robert Jarman Jr, both of Alliance, OH. She was proud

grandmother to eight; Juakita (Adrian) Bowens, Landon Jarman, Darnell Miller, Cealneeka

Hicks, Jillian Jones, Demontae Jarman, Michael (Carlene) Miller, and Darius Jarman. Her

legacy continues through her great-grandchildren—Nicole Miller, Jalen Bowens, Maleigha

Fletcher, Jorden Bowens, Mikenna Hicks, Michael Miller Jr., Juakita Jarman, Milan Miller,

Demontae Jarman II, Melody Miller, Cario Miller—two great-great-grandchildren Naomi Gamble

and Leylani Bowens.

She is survived by her brothers Joseph (Dora) Thurmond of Decatur, IL, and Herman (Peggy)

Taylor of Covington, TN; a special niece, Ursula King; and another son, Roger Lilly. Her

memory lives on through a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and

friends.

Luecille was preceded in death by her husband, Claude C. Smith, her parents, sisters, Rosa Bee

Halliburton and June Allen Halliburton; and brothers Earl Cecil Thurmond and James Lee

Thurmond.

Heaven has welcomed a beautiful soul. Luecille touched countless lives with her compassion

and joy. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love and kindness will continue to

inspire us. Rest peacefully—you will be in our hearts. Arrangements are entrusted to Dean's Funeral Home
