Kay Starkey, a cherished educator and beloved community member, was born on October 19, 1940, and departed this world on November 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and love. Her journey through life was marked by an unwavering passion for teaching, a calling she embraced with grace and enthusiasm. For over four decades, she imparted knowledge and wisdom to countless students, first as a teacher at Real Life Christian School and later, as a substitute teacher for several schools. In addition to her formal education roles, Kay devoted herself to Sunday School teachings, fostering the spiritual growth of young minds in her community.
A proud graduate of Louisville High School in 1958 and of Mount Union College in 1962, Kay's thirst for knowledge extended far beyond her years in formal education. Her interests were diverse and included reading, studying the Bible, square dancing, and roller skating, revealing a vibrant spirit that endeared her to friends and family alike. Each interaction was imbued with warmth and encouragement, as she seamlessly integrated her personal passions into her teaching methodology, inspiring many to embrace learning as a lifelong pursuit.
Kay now joins her beloved husband, Milton Starkey, and her son, David Starkey, in eternal rest. Their memories will be cherished by those who remain, including her devoted family: Dan (Debra) Starkey, Dale Starkey, and her grandchildren Sloan, Nolan (Jaiden), Gabriel, and Giana, along with her great-grandchildren, Dean and Luke.
As a matriarch, she fostered an environment of love and support, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her. The light of her presence will continue to illuminate the paths of her family, as they carry forward her legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication to the nurturing of young minds.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Kay's life and contributions to education and her community during the visitation held at Dean's Funeral Home in Sebring, Ohio, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on November 24, 2025, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Kay will then be laid to rest at Mt. Union Cemetery, Alliance, at 1:15 PM, where she will find peace among the tranquil rests of the earth.
As we reflect on her life, we are reminded of the profound impact one individual can have on their community. Kay Starkey's legacy is not merely in the lessons she taught but in the hearts she touched along her remarkable journey.
