John Whitacre, a cherished member of our community, passed away on May 29, 2025, in Louisville, Ohio, at the age of 81. Born on April 21, 1944, in Alliance, Ohio, John dedicated over 40 years of his life as a physical therapy assistant at Alliance Community Hospital, where he touched the lives of countless patients and families with his compassionate care and unwavering dedication.
John's love for sports was evident, as he was a huge fan of the Guardians, cheering passionately for them through every season. Music also played a significant role in his life; he loved singing and found joy in both Country and Christian music, with favorites such as "Amazing Grace" and "When We All Get to Heaven." The 23rd Psalm held a special place in his heart, offering him comfort and strength throughout his life.
He was a proud member of the Beachwood Christian Center, where he found community and fellowship, extending his warm heart to all who crossed his path. John’s life was enriched by his loving family and close friendships. He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Verna, and son, John (Carrie) Whitacre Jr. His close friends, Dick and Lynn Miller, and Larry and Pat Ramser were always by his side, sharing countless memories and supporting each other through life’s many challenges.
John is welcomed into eternal peace by those who have passed before him, including his beloved mother and father, Floyd and Maud (Wentz) Whitacre, and his siblings, sister Susan Peterson and brother Bill Whitacre. He leaves behind not only a family that loved him dearly but also the warmth of his memory, represented by his cherished cat, Jake, who brought him such joy.
As we gather to remember and celebrate John’s life, we will do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we spent with him. His memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him, reminding us of the love and kindness he shared with the world. John Whitacre will be deeply missed, but his legacy of compassion and joy will live on in our hearts forever. A time of Visitation will take place on Thursday June 5th form 9-930am at Dean's Funeral Home, 256 W. Ohio Avenue Sebring, Ohio 44672. Followed by a funeral service conducted by Jim McLoud. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Arrangements are entrusted to Dean's Funeral Home Sebring, Ohio.
