Howard L. Byers Jr., a life devoted to family, work, and his passions, passed away on January 13, 2026, at Compassionate Care Hospice in Canton, Ohio. He was born on December 21, 1946, in Alliance, Ohio.
Howard spent a significant part of his career as a crane operator for American Steel, where he was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering dedication. His hands not only operated machinery but also molded the lives of those around him with guidance and support.
A proud veteran, Howard served in the Army during the Vietnam War, displaying courage and resilience that defined the man he would become. Upon returning from military service, he re-established his roots in the community and found joy in the simplest of life's pleasures.
Howard's hobbies were uniquely his own. He enjoyed tinkering with various projects, perhaps a reflection of his hands-on approach to life. He was an avid fan of wrestling and had a particular fascination with unsolved mysteries, exploring the intrigue of the unknown with a sense of curiosity that inspired those around him.
Family was the cornerstone of Howard’s life. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Brenda (Robert) Crosser, who held a special place in his heart. He leaves behind a loving legacy that includes his brother, Patrick (Judy) Hubbs; sisters Shirley McPherson, Suzy Byers, and Betty Jean; grandchildren Lillie, Cher, Shawnee, and Sequoyah; and five great-grandchildren, two of whom are on the way. Each of these relationships brought him immense joy and fulfillment, and they will carry forward his spirit through their memories of him.
Howard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon Byers, whom he wed on October 19, 1974, and with whom he shared numerous memories that shaped a beautiful life together. He was also welcomed in heaven by his parents, Howard L. Byers Sr. and Fay Hively Byers, alongside his late brother, Ronald Hubbs, and sister, Berry Lou Walters. Each of these departed loved ones played a crucial role in his life, and they are now reunited in peace.
