Elmer Howard Huntsman Jr., known affectionately as Opie, passed away at his home on July 11, 2025 with His wife Nancy by his side, at the age of 64 in Sebring, Ohio. Born on December 28, 1960, Opie was a beloved figure in his community and cherished by his family and friends.
Opie was a man of many passions. He cherished the time spent with his family and enjoyed the occasional game of golf with friends. A devoted fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State football, his love for the game was only matched by his affection for Westerns, whether it was watching classic films or delving into Western novels. He also had a profound love for classic rock music and an impressive collection of lighthouses. Among his family, he shared a special bond with his cousin Donnie Handy and his niece Brianna Huntsman, who he adored as if she were his own child.
Opie leaves behind his loving wife, Nancy who he shared 39 wonderful years together, his mother, Mary Louise(Handy) Huntsman , his brother Ross Crowl (Justine), and his sisters Teresa Huntsman, Joyce Carpenter, Betty Jean, and Linda. And many cousins , nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer H. Huntsman Sr., his siblings Debbie, Sandy, Nita, and Terry, his uncle Dale Handy, cousin Daphne Handy, grandparents Stella McLvein and Carl Handy, and Aunt Betty and uncle Jack Peterson.
Opie was a faithful member of the Freeburg Church - The Brethren in Paris, Ohio, A celebration of life will be held in his honor at the church on August 2, 2025, at 11:00 am, followed by a luncheon. Friends and family are encouraged to bring photos to share memories of Opie.
His life was a testament to his love for his family, and his varied interests. Opie's memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
