Eleanor was born in a small town of Oakwood Tx to Russel Swank and Kathryn Wortman. She grew up in Ohio and went to school at Maple Ridge elementary, then graduated with honors from Sebring HS in 1961. She loved sports, played basketball and volleyball. She loved music and loved to sing. Attended the Friends Church in Sebring.
She began her family in 1964 raising four children, two stepchildren and a houseful of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and anyone who needed moms special blend of no-judgement, and unconditional love that filled the farm with so much life. No one was ever turned away and was always made to feel special and loved. She loved to collect piggy banks then fill then with coins to give them away, do crosswords and puzzles and so proud of her grandchildren. She was such a vital part of raising each of them. Her warm chest and soothing demeanor could quiet any tears. Those arms held magic in them. She was also a member of the Eagles club in Salem. Although being a dairy maid and milking cows was her primary occupation for over 40 years , she was so much more. She had the love and patience worthy of sainthood a work ethic worthy of a Nobel prize and the stamina of an ultra-marathon athlete. No excuses, she did whatever needed to be done. Drove her kids to and from sports events, through some of the worst blizzards, determined to give them the best life possible despite any hardships. She memorized every birthday and special occasion to be sure they were celebrated. She was the wealth of knowledge we all leaned on and learned from.
She was blessed with a gift to find four leaf clovers and arrowheads in a field even after we just looked there. Quick with a smile, a hug and compassion and occasionally a joke.
She touched lives in a way, that made her unforgettable. Even her name “Eleanor” which means lighthearted or shining light. She was and will always be the light in all our lives. Eleanor Anne Carter will be deeply missed and forever remembered as the shining light in the hearts of her family and friends.
